The Ministry of Mines in Liberia made an official launch of the online applications process last week, with an event hosted by the Hon Minister, Deputy Minister Hines, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Legislature of Liberia.
Stakeholders in the mining sector saw a demonstration of the online applications process by the Director of the Cadastre, Pency Cooper. A live demonstration was also made of the online payment functionality, allowing payment using mobile money. This was made possible by integrating the MCAS portal with the Liberia Revenue Authority. Mining companies can now submit applications online, make payments online and submit statutory reports.
The RDF Managing Director congratulated the Ministry with achieving all its objectives during this phase of the project. RDF also mentioned the achievements of the MME Office of Precious Minerals, who now use MCAS to issue export certificates. These new certificates have a QR code linked to the customs verification portal, helping to combat scams and illicit financial flows.
RDF thanked the GIZ Regional Resource Governance Programme, who supported the effort with funds from the European Union.
