Solomon Islands
RDF is contributing to building capacity in MMERE through training and day-to-day technical assistance and is providing an automated Administration System, MCAS, designed to make the processing, issuing and monitoring of mining licenses more efficient. In addition, RDF’s geodata modules are being used by MMERE for efficiently managing the geodata repository of the country. An RDF drone specialist was deployed to Solomon Islands to assist the ministry in collecting, processing, and analyzing forest cover baseline data using drone technology. The forest cover baseline data was, in turn, converted into polygons delineating forest cover to enable the ministry to track changes over time and protect the country’s environment. Ultimately, this project will lead to increase of government revenues and increased investor’s confidence in the sector.
